Baccarat Rules Explained
A game of baccarat is more often than not held in an elegantly roped section in most casinos. Sometimes, the area is also guarded, which makes it somehow intimidating for other casino goers. Twelve to fourteen players may play at once in a particular baccarat table. These players are usually known as the “high rollers”, due to the high minimum for the amount of bet set for the table.
Each baccarat table is usually facilitated by three persons from the casino. Two are dealers and the third one is called a “croupier”. Each dealer is responsible for seven baccarat players at each end of the table. They assist the players in betting, collects the bets that did not win and distributes the winnings. On the other hand, the “croupier” conducts the game and announces the value of the hand for each betting area.
There are three betting areas in the baccarat table. The banker and the player are the major betting areas. The other one is the stand-off, which is used when the baccarat player deems that there will be a tie between the values of the banker and player’s hands.
The principal objective in playing baccarat is to place the bet to the betting area a baccarat player believes will get a hand, which will have a value closest to nine after the cards have been dealt. Unlike in most card games, a baccarat player does not hold any card unless the casino allows the players to deal the cards. There is no competition between players and one baccarat player does not have anything to do with the loosing and winnings of other players at play.
The game of baccarat starts with the betting. After the players have placed their bets on any of the three betting areas, the cards will be dealt by the either the dealer coming from the casino or one of the baccarat players. The banker and the player betting areas will get two cards each. A third card will be dealt according to the rules of dealing automatically implemented at each baccarat table.
The face cards and the tens, even if comes any of the four suits, has a value equivalent to zero. All other cards have the same value as their face value. If the total value of the cards dealt exceeded nine, the two digits of the value are added up and the sum is the value of the hand.
